People will soon be able to vote for politicians in their local Tesco or post office, by home computer or by texting from their mobile phone, just as they do for contestants on Big Brother or Strictly Come Dancing, Lord Falconer, the lord chancellor, will announce today.
One of my colleagues sat in on a very early text-voting-workshop thing held by a sub-committee of a Government office. We concluded that while it was a really efficient medium for easily casting your opinion (as the likes of Big Brother demonstrates), one trip to Carphone Warehouse and you’ve got yourself 10 sim cards and 10 extra votes. I wonder what they’re doing to counter this.
