Text message to journalist helps free sex slaves

Link: Malaysian police track down sex slaves after SMS plea for help

One of the women, who obtained the mobile number of a reporter from the English daily, began sending cries for help via several short message service (SMS) which were then sent to police.

A text message is far easier to send than placing an audible phone call — and this example above, where the medium has helped connect those in trouble to those who an help — is a super illustration as to why more countries should, I reckon, start implementing 999 or 911 style text lines.

The ladies in question are only lucky that they a) managed to get hold of a mobile handset and b) managed to get the number of the journalist.
