South African seafood lovers have been offered a cool new tool to make the right choice on what fishes to eat – or avoid.
By sending a cellphone SMS, they can check whether the fish species they are about to buy or eat is threatened by overfishing.
The new “Hngry 4 fsh” SMS service (079 499 8795) has been launched by conservation group World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa as part of the SA Sustainable Seafood Initiative, which classifies seafood choices by colour coding.
A useful service no doubt — perhaps slightly limited if the fish has already been caught, cooked and placed in front of you. In fact, rather limited if the fish is sat in the fridge of the restaurant too. Still, the service helps you make an informed purchase.
