The Samsung i8000 Omnia II: Enough to convert WinMo naysayers?

I had a look at the Samsung i8000 Omnia II last week. One of the chaps I was with was using it as his primary handset — and when he showed it to me, I was thoroughly, thoroughly impressed.

Yes it’s running Windows Mobile (a constant irritation for me) but the fantastic 3.7″ AMOLED display, above every other feature, really, really pops out.

Here’s a snapshot:

Specification wise, the device had a nice looking 5 megapixel camera (“DVD quality video capture”), 10 hour talk time, 430 hour standby, quad-band… and from there, the features are as you might expect for a top of the range device.

I was also pretty impressed to see the Microsoft Office support on one of the menus — since it’s based on Windows Mobile, it offers Exchange support, along with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF viewers. That might clinch the deal for many who are still routinely trading Microsoft formatted documents for business purposes.

Despite my considerable annoyance with Windows Mobile as an operating system, I would consider using one of these.
