The SMS Text News Wiki

I’ve just spent a good 180 minutes learning Wikis.

I thought I knew it.

I generally did. I could have passed a GCSE in Wikis, I reckon. But in terms of actually arsing about with them and implementing them, well, my experience was a little bit virtual.

A little like that Lieutenant in Aliens 2 (a terrifically atmospheric movie on widescreen HD with surround sound). Here’s the quote:

Ripley: How many drops is this for you, Lieutenant?
Gorman: Thirty eight… simulated.
Vasquez: How many combat drops?
Gorman: Uh, two. Including this one.
Drake: Shit.
Hudson: Oh, man…

My wiki experience was … simulated, up until a few hours ago. Now we’re there. I’ve launched the SMS Text News Wiki.

It replaces the directory. I have been working hard on the directory — but, really, it’s been getting such a mammoth task and I’m backed up with 100s of email requests from people wanting to be listed. Now, theoretically, you too can edit the SMS Text News Wiki and edit your details. I’m going to try and find some people to help me grow it. If you’re interested in becoming a Wiki guardian in return for wads of cash and some kudos, mail me.

My goal is to develop the Wiki into a really useful resource of companies, people, products and services relating to the mobile industry.

The Wiki itself — currently — is ultra sparse. I added a few people and a few companies. But don’t be surprised when you get there and find it relatively early.

Your task, if you wish to accept it, is to add your company into the shenanigans. I think you’ll need to quickly register an account to do so. It’s really simple to do it though. Go ahead and try.

How to add yourself

The quickest way of adding yourself and your company is to go to the search box. In this example I’m going to add Sonus PR, the telecoms PR agency:

Nothing is found by the Wiki, so it gives you the option to create this page.

Click that link. Now start typing. Don’t type rubbish. Something relevant and accurate. Add a few links as you see fit:

Then press save.

Done.

That’s it. I also added [[category: Public Relations]] to the Sonus PR record so that they appear under the Public Relations category in the Wiki.

You can’t break it. Have a go. Mind out though, Krystal will be watching for funny stuff.
