Pocket: I’m always being sent articles to read, or finding interesting links on Twitter, but I rarely have time to read them there and then. That’s when I save them to Pocket, which allows me to read them when I don’t have to rush. The fact that all articles are saved offline also means I have something to read when I don’t have a data connection, perfect when you are travelling on a train. And the ‘suggested articles’ Pocket sends me help me find some stories I wouldn’t have otherwise seen.

Zombies, Run!: Even back in 2012, the app store was awash with running apps, but none of them were as original as Zombies, Run! The narration and the feeling you’re being chased by zombies really helps turn a standard run into a game; great if you find that music doesn’t quite do it for you.

Memrise: Using the power of memes to help you learn a language sounds like it shouldn’t work, but it really does. The mobile version means there’s always time for me to improve, even if it’s just while I’m queuing to get a coffee.

Egencia Business Travel: A fantastic app that connects my business travel system to an app experience. Egencia makes it easy to book hotels, trains and flights, with live pricing and availability meaning I should never get stuck, in theory. It also synchronises with your device’s calendar, which is an added benefit.

Flipboard: Apple might be trying to emulate Flipboard with Apple News, but for me Flipboard is still the greatest news aggregator out there. Not only does it feature content from all my favourite publishers, such as the Guardian, New York Times and Wired, but it displays it in a way that looks beautiful on my mobile and even better on tablets.

Trello: Email and calendar apps help me stay on top of the office when I’m away from it, but Trello is my go-to app for managing projects on the move. It allows me to keep up to date with projects, make changes and notes, assign tasks and manage workflow. Synchronisation across devices means I’m always up to date with the latest developments.

Hitman Go: Bringing console games onto mobile devices often ends in disappointment as touchscreen devices struggle to match gamepad-gaming. This is why I think Hitman Go is the perfect example of how mobile gaming should be done. Swapping to twin-stick stealth for a turn-based board game Hitman Go retains the tactics and planning that makes Hitman great, but in a system that works beautifully on mobile. It also looks gorgeous.
