Touchnote spreading like wildfire; now posting to Sri Lanka
I was really pleased to see Shazly Makeen‘s MobyPicture earlier today. Shazly, by the way, is the chap behind S60-focused mobile tech site, WoM Lanka. He took a snap of his recently arrived Touchnote postcard:
What’s pretty cool is that Shazly is based in Sri Lanka. He took the picture with his Nokia N82 and used the Touchnote S60 application to have the picture sent as a stand-up postcard.
Genius.
It’s good to see a mobile service delivering a physical product and doing it all across the planet.
Here’s the other side of the postcard:
What’s shit-hot about Touchnote is that they don’t just send postcards. They send stand-up ones. See the panels on either side of the image? They’re scored… so, by default, they’re bent back — so that the whole card stands at a really useful angle.
Touchnote will send *normal* postcards too… but I prefer the ones that stand-up.
I’m pretty impressed with the little Google Map mashup on the inside right-hand-side of the card, showing where the picture was snapped. And I like the fact on the left-hand-side, the card says ‘This card was created on my Nokia N82’. Little touches like that make Touchnote simply brilliant.

I went hunting for it for my N97 — but of course it was nowhere to be found because Nokia (sensibly?) only display apps compatible with your handset. But N82, N95 and so on — anything like that should work fine. In fact, looking at the Touchnote for Mobile site, I read the following:
Touchnote for Mobile will work on all Nokia Series 60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1&2 handsets. However, we have tested extensively on the following Nokia phones:, 5630 Xpress Music, E71, N78, N79, N81, N82 , N85, N85 8GB, N95, N95 8GB and N96
Touchnotes sent via the mobile app cost £2 each (inc posting) when you buy a 5 card pack from the Ovi Store. Buying just one costs £3. Your Touchnotes are printed and mailed next-day so if you’re in the UK and you send the card via the app at, say, 11am on Monday, you should receive it in the post on Wednesday morning. Or Tuesday if you’ve got brilliant post service. For Europe, allow 3 days… for the rest-of-the-world, allow 5 days.
And the inevitable question… ‘is it on iPhone?’ Well, I talked to Touchnote co-founder, Raam, last week, when I was in San Francisco and it appears the iPhone version is just weeks away.
