Update from the States

I’ve been sat here staring at the screen of my laptop wondering just what to write, just where to begin.

Geez it’s bad. Very bad. Really bad. You know the mobile industry in America is slightly screwed when it is actually cheaper for me to use my T-Mobile UK handset — that’s a UNITED KINGDOM HANDSET — to make and receive calls, than it is to use a Prepaid American account.

It’s not all bad though.

No, there are some good things. Like Sprint’s USB broadband modem. Fantastic.

I’ve been sat, though, trying to think just how to get my experiences out ‘on to virtual paper’. Here’s an overview of what’s coming…

A post on each visit to a mobile store? Perhaps.

Being in-depth talking with a mobile sales person, only for him to entirely blank me and walk away to greet some girl who walked into the store. Strange.

Being asked what State the UK is in.

Having to explain what a Nokia E61i is. (“Is that phone even out yet?”)

A $14 mobile phone. That’s a 7 quid handset. Nice.

My dire T-Mobile USA experience.

My dimwit AT&T store experience.

My Boost mobile experience. Yes, I have a Boost mobile. It’s apparently got GPS.

Push-to-talk is quite fun.

I’ve seen two Nokia N95s in San Francisco so far.

I’m working on writing up each of these experiences. More to come.
