Vollee brings Second Life to mobile

If you’ve had a tinker with Linden Lab’s virtual world Second Life on your PC, you’ll know it’s a processing-power hungry beast – which makes this announcement from Vollee even more interesting. The company has announced it’s bringing Second Life to 3G mobile using its streaming mobile games service.

Gamers can register to trial the Second Life Grid platform at the at the company’s website and the set service is set to go live from this May. Vollee said it will be translating the Second Life to fit a mobile screen and mapping PC commands to a mobile keypad.

Nevertheless, given the popularity of the virtual world, I’m surprised no one’s tried to bring it to a mobile platform before. I’d be interested to see this working in the flesh – I’m guessing it’ll best suit device with big screens, like the iPhone – but I’ll be sure to try out the system when it’s live.
