With only three months left in the first-ever global election to name the New Seven Wonders of the World, Indians and people from across the globe have been urged to vote for Taj Mahal so that the symbol of eternal love retains its position.

The New 7 Wonders Campaign has urged people to vote for the Taj Mahal through SMS and telephone.

‘’The Taj needs the continued support of people in India and around the world to remain in the Top seven, especially with powerful new campaigns taking place on behalf of the other candidates,” the campaign said. It pointed out that many famous candidates such as the Acropolis and Stonehenge were in the top 7, but no longer are at the moment, so voting remains as important as ever!

Starting today and for seven days, the current ranking of the 21 candidates will be posted on the New7Wonders website, www.new7wonders.com, which is also where people could vote and find out about voting by SMS and telephone.

Butter me in honey and call me Delilah, if this isn’t a rather smart way to get cash out of people.

I don’t really like how the campaign is reported to have ‘urged people to vote for the Taj Mahal through SMS and telephone’ — i.e. the two best ways of ripping cash out of people’s pockets — you can vote online for no cost (you do have to go through a registration process).

While we’re at it? Who made this ‘official’? I thought we already had some wonders of the world. Why do we need new ones?

Anyway, In the UK, you can ‘officially’ vote, for 50p + standard rate text, for your favourite wonder of the world to be defined as one of the 7 New Wonders of the World. Or if you’re in America, you’ll have to blow a dollar for your text vote.

Come 7th of July, there will be an announcement ceremony that appears to look like an Olympic games party:
