Wireless Winnings offers horse racing results via text

I must admit that the first (and the last) horse race that I bet on was a tenner on the Grand National the other week at some ridiculous odds – and as I’m still blogging whilst watching the rain outside the window it’s pretty obvious I didn’t win my fortune. However, if you’re in the US and a fan of pari-mutuel racing, this is worth a look.

Wireless Winnings is an alert-based service that offers results of Thoroughbred and Harness racing from 76 tracks in North America automatically sent to your email, cell phone or other wireless device.

This web site provides you with the platform to customize this service. Once you have set up your alerts, only the results you requested will be sent as they are made available. Upon registration, your account will be automatically funded with $5 or enough to receive 50 free messages just for trying it out.

It’s been backed by Scientific Games Corporation, who are big in the lottery, interactive sports and prepaid phone cards business. They’re also a licensed pari-mutuel gaming operator in Connecticut, Main and the Netherlands.

Footnote: Incidently, if you’re like me and was wondering what exactly ‘pari-mutuel’ betting is, here’s what Wikipedia has to say:

Parimutuel betting (from the French language: pari mutuel, mutual betting) is a betting system in which all bets of a particular type are placed together in a pool; taxes and a house take are removed, and payoff odds are calculated by sharing the pool among all placed bets.

So now you know!
