Would You Like A Briefing On Network Signalling? And Some Beer?
I’ve had a lot of conversations recently about Unlimited Drinks, our networking event series, especially since I published this post yesterday.
Last night I was speaking to a chap who works for a mobile operator in the marketing section. I’d mentioned network signalling. He asked how I knew about that. I said I’d had a briefing from Nokia Siemens Networks. He asked if he could get a briefing too.
I reckoned no. I mean, it’s conceivable. But these organisations are built to brief journalists — and in recent years, the term journalist has been extended to include bloggers and influencers. Everybody else has to… well, they have to do their own thing.
I really enjoy getting briefings from companies. It’s simply brilliant sitting in front of smart executives and hearing them talk, hearing their take on the marketplace and finding out what they’re doing.
Which got me wondering. I think some MIR readers would appreciate and enjoy the opportunity to come along to a briefing. For example, would you like to learn more about network signalling and network controlled fast dormancy (and why that can help improve your phone’s battery life)?
I think I might be able to get the chaps at Nokia Siemens Networks to agree to field one of their executives to give a briefing to perhaps 10-20 readers over lunch in the West End of London.
Now, I can imagine than Ben Roome of NSN is reading this thinking, ‘shit‘, because I haven’t spoken to him about it, or their PR. I’m just using this as an example.
I know there are lots of companies out there who’d welcome the opportunity to discuss their technologies and services and to comment on the wider market.
I think there are quite a few executives reading who’d like to learn more too and do a bit of networking.
What do you think? Any interest in this kind of thing?
Here’s the audio ‘phlog’ I did about the idea this morning.
