Croatian commuters can pay by text

Zagreb unveiled a ticketing system Monday that will allow the Croatian capital’s commuters to pay for bus and tram rides through SMS text messaging. The system was the second of its kind to have been launched in a European city following Helsinki, said Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic and Ivan Tolic, the director of the ZET public transportation company. Passengers using the system send text messages and receive confirmation in an SMS that gives the time of the electronic ticket’s validity and a six-digit confirmation number. The charges — eight kunas (one euro, 1.5 dollars), which is 1.5 kunas more than for the paper tickets purchased at kiosks — are deducted from the buyer’s cellphone bill.Good to see another country has seen the light with mobile ticketing on public transport. Wonder how the similar service launched by Chiltern Trains recently is going?
