1m iPhones sold over launch weekend

A quick strawpoll of friends may suggest that the hype about the iPhone 3G is overrated. Comments such as “meh, I’ll probably wait” or “My blackberry has Wi-Fi now, why would I need an iPhone” have come back from 3 out of four friends questioned.

That said, I think my friends might be in the minority. Having taken 2 1/2 months to sell one million iPhones it has taken just one weekend to sell that many iPhone 3G. Admittedly, the new phone is on sale in many more countries than just the US this time.

Yes, there’s a lot of hype but it does look like a gorgeous phone. I have to admit though, I’m still holding out for the OpenMoku Free Runner.
