Good Mobile Messaging getting even Gooder
So I was down this afternoon with Kitt at Good Mobile Messaging, now, I think, known as ‘Motorola Good’. The UK office hasn’t yet been integrated into the hive mind at Motorola HQ, but I’m told that’s happening shortly.
I met with Kit for two reasons.
One, I wanted to check out Good Mobile Messaging 5.0 (“GMM”). I have been watching the 5.0 introductory video on their site regularly, salivating slightly, in a really geeky way.
Two, I wanted to see GMM working natively — that is, on a Motorola device. They will certainly be keeping support for multiple platforms but now that they’re owned by Motorola, one expects that they’ll be able to get hold of the secret sauce and nicely integrate into the device even more so than at standard platform level.
5.0 is still in beta and is due to hit the marketplace comprehensively in this quarter — maybe the end of September, perhaps slightly later, I wasn’t too worried about pinning Kitt down to a date and time. I just wanted to check it out directly.
There is nothing better than Good Mobile Messaging. I’ve done a lot of hunting. For flexibility of platform and feature set, I can’t think of anything that directly compares.
Blackberry, for example, is a different proposition. That’s end-to-end and for many organisations, working with a manufacturer who controls everything from the hardware to the software to the backend infrastructure, is just what they want.
For me — and for a lot of others — multi-platform availability and a rich feature set that is effectively Outlook mobilised (about a billion times better than the standard Windows Mobile Client) … but it works on your Nokia. Or your Windows Mobile device. Or your Treo. Or your Symbol.
So, more to come. I’m going to do a load more on this over the coming days including a breakdown of the upcoming 5.0 features. I hope the Fasthosts chaps (who I used to host my GMM account) have 5.0 slated for upgrade soon.
