In danger of swapping to a Blackberry

I am seriously thinking about swapping my email from Good Mobile Messaging to Google. I have been looking closely at the Google Apps service — where you can sign-up with your own domain and get gmail, calendar, the whole shebang.

They’ve got a really funky service for the Blackberry. Nothing, I think, comes close to the gtalk integration on the Blackberry.

If you recall, I dumped my Blackberry 8700 last year for a Nokia E61 and Good Mobile Messaging.

Well, I’ve been giving serious consideration to moving straight to Google and using their Blackberry gmail application to run my communications — as well as Gmail for desktop mail — and the rest of the Google Apps, calendar, and so on.

A few issues.

First off, the Gmail application on the Nokia E61 — or any Nokia, actually — is painfully slow compared to Good Mobile Messaging. Good is fast and it’s wholly integrated. The calendar, the contacts, the email — it is exactly the same on the E61 and on my computers. That is incredibly valuable to me.

I feel a pull toward a Blackberry Curve and Google.

I just don’t know. I’ll need to think about it.

I’m not quite sure I can give up the total integration of Good. If I swapped, I wouldn’t be able to use the Blackberry’s mail functions. I’d need to use the Gmail application *on* the Blackberry. And that just… well, it’s a bit of a shame having to ignore the built-in Blackberry email.

Ahhhh well. Decisions, decisions.
