Mobicode - Mobile Barcodes working?

Mobile ticketing and mobile coupon solutions company Mobicode has announced that it will be launching its flagship service into the South African market, which will enablecompanies to deliver bar-coded tickets, coupons and vouchers to mobile phones throughSMS.

If I had a penny for every news story I read about mobile barcodes working…….

To be fair, I think the technology is certainly coming of age.  I can remember talking about it with various huge nightclub chains a good three years ago.  It just wasn’t mission-critical enough to be able to send out a coupon to 10,000 clubbers and reliably scan it. 

If it’s actually work-able, then I can see quite a few cool applications for it.
