MXit - South African Mobile Instant Messaging client
Link: My Broadband :: 3G & Cellular : Message anyone for less than 1c…should mobile networks be worried?.
Just came across this…
MXit is essentially a South African-developed instant messaging program that you’d download to your cellphone. It was launched a year ago by a company called Clockspeed Mobile, which has since been renamed MXit Lifestyle (Pty) Ltd.
Similar to the existing big players in the relatively new mobile instant messenger industry – Crickee, Hotxt, Juize, Texme — MXit appears to offer a heck of a lot more including chatrooms, games and access to MSN *and* ICQ, AOL, Jabber (and as a result, Google Talk, I think). To date I think I’ve only come across MSN connectivity in Crickee & Juize. So MXit appears to be ahead here. I wonder if they’ve plans to come to Europe?
Launched in 2004, they’re gunning for the marketplace. Their mission? Secure 2.5% of the world GSM phone population within the next 3 years.
