What next for Mobyko?
After the rather exciting announcement of the acquisition of Zyb last week by Big Red (something we covered both on the site and on the podcast), I have been pondering what the next steps will be for Mobyko, one of (as far as I could tell) Zyb’s key competitors in the address book backup space.
However Mobyko offers a lot more than simply address book backup. A key service is the ability to view, share and store videos, photos and texts with your Mobkyo account — and with nigh-on 3 million personal contacts stored to date, they’re a large player. I’d like to see them evolve this segment of their business to offer immediate storage and sharing of all media from the handset (I’m thinking a co-branded ShoZu style service, rather than requiring the user to forward everything — there would, alas, be compatibility issues with a lot of handsets).
I’d also, naturally, like to see them do a little more with the inherent knowledge present in 2.7 million address book contacts. I’m going to put in a call to Mobyko and see how things are going.
